Instructions and ”things to think of” for Elevate

Welcome to the island Ekskäret!

We want you to feel at home here. When we meet here on the island, it welcomes us to experience and be part of all that is here. We make sure that the big ‘whole’, the other and we ourselves stay well and we live by the words ‘leave a better trace’.

During 2024 Elevate will be one of only three organizations that will arrange events on the island. The other two are Inner Development Goals and Protus.

We have gathered some information that may be of use for you during your stay. First and foremost - the two most important things to always remember are: Never leave a fire/candle burning and don’t flush down anything else than toilet paper, pee and poop. Also - please contact us if you have any questions; rather ask one time too many than too little :)

In Case of an Accident (Gathering Place)

If an accident happens everyone gathers on the pier next to the ‘Waxholms pier’. There is also info about “Fire, Security and Accident” in your rooms and on the wall in the main hall.

Candles

When you’re leaving a burning candle - either extinguish it or hand over the responsibility for it to someone else.

Doors

Keep all doors closed (the entrance, the accommodations, toilets and showers). They are heated with electric heating so they can get damaged if they’re slammed by a strong wind for example.

Water Access

We produce and clean the water in our desalination plant. It’s a slow and time consuming process, which means that we have limited access to water on the island and therefore need to be frugal when showering for example.

Sewage and Toilets

Important! Our sewage system is a bit sensitive. Therefore you should only use the toilet paper that is already here and not flush down anything else than the toilet paper and your faeces. Tampons and other things are disposed in the little garbage bin with a plastic bag in it.

Heating of the Rooms

You regulate the heating of the room with the radiator. Please turn of the heater if you want to open the window to ventilate the room (to not waste electricity).

The Fire Place in Agora

The wood stove in Agora can be a bit difficult to ignite. There are instructions on the wall to the right of it. It’s important to open both of the throttles that are in the middle, under the glas door. Pull them out as far as they reach. Please use small sticks in the beginning, and put them at the back of the stove. If smoke comes in the room you can open the window to the right of the fireplace.

Army (out door) Blankets

Feel free to use them, but not inside. Roll them up properly every day and put them back in the storage so that they’re not exposed to getting wet if and when it rains.

Kayaks/Canoes

It’s still cold in the water so please be really careful if you use the kayaks and canoes.

Only use them if you’re at least two people and always let someone else on the island know when you head out. Always put them back where they belong after using them. If you leave the at the small beach the current and the waves pull them out.

Wood Sauna

There are instructions outside the door. Fill up the fire wood storage (behind the sauna) up to at least 3⁄4 before leaving the island. Obs, don’t use water from the sea on the fire place, bring water from the facility!

Electrical Sauna

There are instructions outside the door. Don’t use candles in the sauna. Obs, don’t use water from the sea on the fire place, bring water from the facility!

Big Tent

Our big tent are getting older and right now two out of three entrances are damaged (drag chains), and we will not use them except in case of an emergency. So please use only the entrance facing the sea. Important rule in the tent is that someone alway needs to be in the tent until the fire or embers are hummed out.

The Kitchen - Handling and Hygiene

Annika explains about the kitchen and food hygiene; both specific instructions and common sense. It’s important that you watch these clips and follow the instructions. We can get shut down by health authorities if we don’t follow the guidelines for these properly and thoroughly. Please contact us if there are any doubts or questions about something.
